A voter’s guide to the 2026 midterm elections

Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026 marks Election Day in the United States. Each state has different voter registration requirements to complete before hitting the polls.

Whether you are a TCU student, a Texas resident, an out-of-stater, or not yet registered to vote, here are the key dates and information to know.

Monday, Oct. 5, is the last day to register to vote in Texas. The cutoff date varies by state, but most states close voter registration in early October, roughly one month before Election Day.

To update your information, you’ll need a current driver's license or ID card, Social Security card, or a Voter Registration Card, which can be obtained through your current county voter registrar. For more information, visit the Texas Office of the Secretary of State website.

Voters can also apply to vote by mail for an absentee ballot if they are unable to vote in-person on Election Day. The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is Friday, Oct. 23.

Early voting runs Monday, Oct. 19 through Friday, Oct. 30.

With a busy election season underway, it can be hard to track down your polling location. All eligible Tarrant County voters can look up their registration, polling location, or sample ballot through the Tarrant County Voter Lookup system.
